In an era of rapid technological transformation and shifting media landscapes, the governance of media and communication has emerged as one of the most critical and dynamic domains of public policy. The MA in Media and Communication Governance (MA-MCG) at IIMC Dhenkanal is a two-year postgraduate programme designed to meet this challenge, preparing the next generation of media policy professionals, communication researchers, regulatory practitioners, and governance advocates.
The programme offers a rigorous and interdisciplinary curriculum that examines the media and communication sector in its full complexity — its laws, regulatory institutions, economic structures, ethical frameworks, and evolving relationship with democracy, development, and digital technologies. With a sharp focus on the Indian context, students engage with real-world governance challenges through case studies, simulations, policy research, and industry interaction.
Structured across four semesters and 88 credits, the programme covers a wide terrain, from communication theory and constitutional law to media ethics, AI governance, political communication, and global media systems. It is aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, offering flexible entry and exit pathways and integration with SWAYAM online courses.
Offered by the Department of Media and Communication Governance at IIMC Dhenkanal — an institution under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India — the MA-MCG programme equips graduates for careers in media regulation, policy advocacy, journalism governance, public communication, research, and the growing field of digital media governance.
